KDE Mentorship - Joining the KDE community

KDE helps newcomers get started in the open source world.

Through several programs, such as Season of KDE or Google Summer of Code, people can join KDE, improve the the software while being mentored by some of the best developers in the world!

Season of KDE

Season of KDE offers everyone the opportunity to participate in both code and non-code projects that benefit the KDE ecosystem. SoK participants have contributed new application features, developed the KDE Continuous Integration System and statistical reports for developers, created web frameworks, ported KDE Applications, composed documentation and much more.

Google Summer of Code

Google Summer of Code is a global, online program focused on bringing new contributors into open source software development. GSoC Contributors work with an open source organization on a 12+ week programming project under the guidance of mentors.

Business mentorship Programs

Your company can also run mentorship programs. Give your staff, trainees and interns real life experience working with remote teams, using bleeding edge development technologies, carrying out tasks that help improve KDE, and earn Open Source brownie points.

Academic Mentorship Programs

Your school and college can participate in KDE mentorships by assigning end of year/course projects set within the KDE ecosystem. Students will learn how to work with a remote team, carry out projects until their fruition, document their work, and get to grips with real world technologies that facilitate all of the above.
